5 Things to Improve Your Weekend

Adding a pop of color to your winter wardrobe is a guaranteed way to improve your mood. While you're at it, add some leopard print, too!

Keep the cereal in the pantry this weekend and make something a little more special. This scone mix is the best!

Pop into your local drugstore or department store and pick up some new lipstick. This matte red from MAC is my current favorite.

Mix things up by wearing cute sneakers instead of your usual ballet flats. I recently found this pair on (super) sale at Kohl's.

I've always been a "white sheets" kind of girl but when I found these a couple weeks ago I was certain they would brighten up my bedroom. Mission accomplished.

10 Beauty Products I Love Right Now

10 Beauty Products

Winter is the hardest time of the year for skin care. Or at least, I think so. Over the last few months, I started experimenting with some new products and makeup tools and have found some that I can't live without now. I hope my list gives you new ideas and inspiration for your winter skin-care/makeup routine! If you have any questions or want more information about any of the products, don't hesitate to email (julieleahblog@gmail.com) or tweet me!

**

one // TRADER JOE'S COCONUT BODY BUTTER - I had heard incredible things about this product for a long time but not having a TJ's near me, I hadn't had the chance to try it. I went to Knoxville a couple weekends ago and immediately snatched this up when we went through the door. It's thick, creamy (almost a whipped consistency), and moisturizes dry winter skin like crazy! I pair it with dry body oil after my shower.

two // NEUTROGENA MAKEUP REMOVER WIPES - Talk about some super power wipes. I have a few friends who use these so I picked them up on a whim at Target one day, and have continued buying them. I switch back and forth between using these and Pond's Cold Cream to take my makeup off at night.

three // TOTAL INTENSITY LIP CRAYON IN "GIRL ON FIRE" - So, this lip crayon trend is completely new to me. I've always thought, "If it's not lipstick, it's not going to last." I love the full coverage, pigmented color of this crayon, without the full coverage-feel of lipstick. It's a nice switch from my everyday lipstick routine.

four // YES TO GRAPEFRUIT FACIAL TOWELETTES - Yes, another face wipe. My approach to these wipes is the same as the approach I have with my exfoliator. I use these a couple times a week at night to remove my makeup. They smell delicious and I can really tell a difference in my skin by adding these to my routine.

five // ESTEE LAUDER PURE COLOR ENVY LIPSTICK IN "POWERFUL" - I've never really been a nude lipstick kind of girl, but this color is everything. It's just enough pink, just enough mauve, and just enough nude (does that even make sense?) to add color without washing you out - which has always been my issue with nude lipsticks.

six // UP & UP PRECISION BLENDER COSMETIC SPONGE - This little thing will change. your. life. I've been using it for about a month now, and I've never found a beauty sponge that I love as much. And, yes, it's Target brand! The handle makes it so easy to use. It's perfect for blending out concealer!

seven // ELF BAKED HIGHLIGHTER IN "BLUSH GEMS" - It would be my luck that I find an amazing highlighter and it's discontinued. At least, I think it is. I can't find it in stock at any beauty supply or drug store. I randomly found this at a discount store when I was visiting my friend Kelsey a few weeks ago. If you can find this, buy it! The price is right, it's not too glittery/shimmery, it's just enough to give you a natural glow.

eight // ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS CONTOUR KIT - This is one of those products that I really never thought I needed. I can't remember the exact moment that I changed my mind, but I absolutely love it. The "banana" powder (yellow-ish in color) is perfect for setting concealer under your eyes and making you look brightened and awake.

nine // L'OREAL TRUE MATCH CONCEALER IN MEDIUM/DEEP - I just recently jumped on the cream contour bandwagon. I had to watch a couple of Jaclyn Hill videos, but I think I've finally gotten the hang of it. This is an awesome product to use to get started. Have y'all tried cream contouring? It looks so natural and gives you a beautiful sunkissed glow.

ten // ELF FLAT TOP POWDER BRUSH - Hands down, the best $3 I've ever spent. This brush is so soft, so dense, and sets your makeup flawlessly. It picks up and holds just enough powder so the finish doesn't look overdone or cakey. Two thumbs up.

Twenty-Eight Things I've Learned in Twenty-Eight Years

Yesterday was my 28th birthday. Twenty. Eight. I say that over and over and it still doesn't get any farther away from thirty, as hard as I try. If I'm being really honest, though, I wouldn't turn around and do these birthdays all over again even if I was given the chance. What I thought was wisdom at sixteen (ha!) doesn't even hold a light to what I have experienced in my twenties. There were good times, bad times, worse times, and then good times again, and through it all (every up and every down) I somehow found myself. Today I'm sharing a list of twenty-eight things that I've learned over the last twenty-eight years - you know, because I'm so wise now ;)

(Outfit details: Tunic, JANE.COM | Vest, BOUTIQUE | Leggings, BELK | Shoes, TJ MAXX | Bag, FOREVER 21 Necklaces, J. CREW & TJ MAXX | Watch, MICHAEL KORS | Rings, PANDORA & MARC JACOBS)

Twenty-eight things I've learned in twenty-eight years. . .

one // All the basic life lessons? Yea, we really did learn those in kindergarten.
two // Stop putting off "taking care of your body." Listen to what's it's telling you and make changes.
three // Never go to bed without washing off your makeup.
four // Being happy literally takes less effort than being sad. Just tell yourself "I'm alive, today is a good day."
five // The 90s really were the best of times.
six // Every day I say things that my mother would say. And every day I become more okay with it.
seven // Having a dance party, having a full-on concert in your house will drastically improve your mood.

eight // There will always be people who call me Julia and it will forever kill me.
nine // Never underestimate the power of good eyebrows. And learn how to do them yourself.
ten // I promise your three-day trip won't be ruined if you don't pack enough clothes for ten days.
eleven // Don't worry so much about the numbers. Worry about the relationships and be satisfied.
twelve // Wear what you want and screw the rest.
thirteen // While we're on the topic, don't worry about size on the tag either.
fourteen // Save money. Start a retirement plan. Live like you're twenty, think like you're sixty.

fifteen // See your doctor and dentist regularly.
sixteen // When you find a hairdresser who just gets you, hold on and don't let go.
seventeen // It's okay to sit on your couch every now and then eating strawberries and Nutella with a spoon and binge-watching Netflix.
eighteen // Don't sweat the small stuff. No, really, don't. In a couple of days, it won't even matter.
nineteen // The big dream wedding isn't all it's cracked up to be.
twenty // Know who "your people" are and tell them how much you love them.
twenty-one // When your dad teaches you how to check your oil, pay attention.

twenty-two // Being judgmental will never pay off.
twenty-three // Going to a counselor is okay and sometimes so very necessary. Never suffer in silence.
twenty-four // Never settle.
twenty-five // Red lipstick really can change the game completely.
twenty-six // Snow days can make or break your week sometimes. Like right now.
twenty-seven // Quality over quantity.
twenty-eight // Thirty really doesn't look so bad.
